Virgin Atlantic to join green revolutionAirline Virgin Atlantic is to add environmental credentials to its belt after announcing a new recycling initiative.

The carrier will work with footwear and accessories company Worn Again to produce handbags made from recycled seat covers that were once used on its aircraft.

They became available for purchase yesterday (September 1st) and will include wash bags, messenger bags and traditional handbags.

Lysette Gauna, creative director for Virgin Atlantic, said: "Virgin Atlantic is committed to taking practical steps to make its business as sustainable as possible. From investing in new technologies, to lobbying the aircraft manufacturers, through to championing new ideas - we believe that actions speak louder than words."

Last month, the carrier announced that it is to collaborate with the National Film and Television School to showcase new film-making talent onboard its flights in its 2008 Film Festival in the Sky.

Virgin Atlantic is one of the world's biggest passenger carriers and offers trips to a number of destinations worldwide, but specialises in flights to Sydney, Hong Kong and New York.
