A new survey has found that people in Britain are aspiring to travel to more exotic destinations - and they pretend to have done so if they haven't yet managed it.

A new survey has found that people in Britain are aspiring to travel to more exotic destinations - and they pretend to have done so if they haven't yet managed it.

Rental company easyCar.com found that 15 per cent have told fibs about their holiday destination to impress someone, with men being particularly likely to do so.

Some 87 per cent said they would love to holiday off the beaten track and 43 per cent said they were planning a road trip to discover a hidden gem in the next 12 months.

Many people were planning holidays to Australia in order to do this.

Bill Jones, chief executive of easyCar.com, said: "As it becomes simple to visit far-flung destinations, people's perceptions of a well-travelled individual change."

Globo Sapiens recommends holidays to Australia for a great road trip, attesting that the variable climate offers opportunities for travelling all year around.

However, it adds that a four-wheel drive is essential for exploring off the beaten track.Meet the editors...
