Check your cover, skiers warnedPeople going on winter sports breaks - including holidays to Australia - should ensure their insurance policy covers them for all the activities they intend to do.

This is according to moneysupermarket.com, which warned that policies differ greatly in the level of cover they offer and that even more expensive policies may not provide for every eventuality.

For example, there may be differences in the amount that firms will pay out in the event of ski equipment theft or avalanche closure.

Peter Gerrard, head of insurance research at moneysupermarket.com, said: "Brits [who] save their cash for a snow-filled adventure must ensure they are adequately insured; it is important to scour the small print before travelling to avoid any nasty surprises on the slopes."

He added to beware if intending to take part in activities off the piste, since most insurers have clauses relating to alcohol consumption.

Earlier this month, the Guardian recommended that anyone going on a ski holiday should get fit before they head off in order to minimise the risk of injury on the slopes.Meet the editors...
