Australias Apollo Bay a quiet gemAnyone searching for a destination that is different from the usual tourist haunts may wish to consider holidays to Australia to investigate Apollo Bay, it has been suggested.

The Sydney Morning Herald recommends the town, which is situated in south-western Victoria, as ideal for those hoping to get back to nature, thanks to its "rugged coastlines", beach walks and pretty country roads that snake through the rainforest.

"Hectic and vibrant in summer, the town is otherwise a quiet seaside village," the news provider attests.

It particularly recommends the Great Ocean Walk, which can be enjoyed as a short hike or a six-day adventure, as well as the Apollo Bay Museum, which houses memorabilia harking back to the town's maritime days.

Apollo Bay is perhaps most famous for hosting its annual eponymous music festival, the last of which was held in April 2008.

It is also hosts the Great Ocean Sports Festival.
