Modern Christmas sending Brits abroadThe notion of Christmas as a time for overspending and being forced to spend time with family members is prompting Britons to head abroad in droves, it has been claimed.

A poll carried out by Kayak.co.uk found that 60 per cent of people said they intend to go on holiday for the festive season, with most intending to book a beach holiday.

Almost three-quarters said this was because they dislike at least one thing about the British Christmas - with eight per cent saying it was having to bond with the in-laws.

Annie Wilson, business development director for Kayak.co.uk, said: "The British Christmas culture is evolving from a homebound 'Winter Wonderland' into a nomadic 'Winter Wanderlust' instead."

Holidays to Australia could be ideal for people wanting to get away for a different Christmas - instead of shivering in Britain, they could enjoy a barbeque on the beach on December 25th.Meet the editors...
