UK holidays will not replace foreign tripsDespite many Britons reining in their spending as part of the credit crunch, one expert has said she does not think holidays in the UK will replace holidays abroad.

Frances Tuke, a spokesperson for the Association of British Travel Agents, said that people from the UK will most likely simply seek destinations where they can get better value, for example, in terms of currency exchange or in cheap services.

"You've got to remember that the last two years in the UK have been quite wet, the weather hasn't been great for UK holidays," she pointed out.

According to a recent survey carried out by Opinium Research, 77 per cent of people said the price is the most important factor when it comes to choosing holidays, followed by location at 76 per cent.

Earlier this month, Julian Neal, global marketing director at Travelex, said that more people may choose holidays to South Africa and Australia in order to benefit from the strong values of the rand and the dollar respectively.
