Get fit before ski trips, experts warnPeople going on ski trips - including holidays to Australia - have been offered some fitness advice by two experts in the sport.

Chris Haworth from Ski+board magazine and former British skiing champion Graham Bell told the Independent that people should always ensure they get as fit as possible before they go, or they risk serious injury.

"Skiing and boarding can be incredibly demanding and, physically, they're all-encompassing," Mr Haworth pointed out.

The experts suggest taking part in cardiovascular exercise six weeks before the holiday, including swimming, cycling or running.

Sprinting will be especially useful as this will mimic the actions that will be needed on the slopes.

In addition, stretching activities such as yoga should also help people to limber up, the pair suggested.

According to a previous article in the Independent, some 1.35 million people went on ski holidays last winter as it becomes a more common pastime and loses its upper class only image.Meet the editors...
