Virgin Atlantic ranks ahead of its rival British Airways (BA) when it comes to not misplacing bags, new figures have revealed.

According to statistics from the Association of European Airlines, Virgin passengers had only a one in 133 chance of losing their luggage (amounting to 7.5 bags per 1,000), while BA lost 18.9 bags per 1,000 since April.

The study looked at incidents where travellers arrived at their destinations but their bags did not, even if they were reunited later.

German-based carrier Lufthansa also performed well, losing only 12.7 bags per 1,000 people.

Last month, Virgin Atlantic announced that it is to implement wireless internet facilities on its fleet of aircraft.

Passengers will benefit from portable laptops which they can borrow for the flights, as well as Skullcandy headsets, seat-to-seat chat and power outlets for every individual.

Virgin offers flights to a number of long-haul destinations, including Australia and South Africa.
