Theatre lovers may be tempted on holidays to Australia

Anyone with a love of good architecture and theatre - as well as a penchant for great travel - may wish to book holidays to Australia for early 2009.

This is when two new buildings will open next door to each other in Melbourne that could appeal to such a demographic and indeed, are likely to be popular with tourists from all over the world.

The MTC Theatre will incorporate a completely flexible stage, which will allow producers to put in scenery including swimming pools and traps.

It will also look good from the outside, being built of white cubes set against a black background.

Meanwhile the Melbourne Recital Centre, with its special stage, will allow spectators to hear performances with intense clarity and will be built to look like a honeycomb.

Melbourne was recently ranked by Unesco as its City of Literature for 2008.

According to recent figures, some 2.2 million people passed through the city's airport during October, a rise of 6.8 per cent on the numbers seen in September.
