People with a passion for doing something different on their travels could consider holidays to Australia, where some exciting activities have been suggested by its tourist authority.

Firstly, the organisation recommends Seal Rocks village in Myall Lakes National Park, where visitors can get away from it all by staying in a real lighthouse.

Built in 1875, it is known as "the last frontier" thanks to its secluded nature and rugged charm. Eight people can be accommodated within its walls.

Alternatively, in Tasmania, the Agrarian Kitchen is to open soon in the Derwent Valley.

Situated in a 19th century schoolhouse, the only cooking school in the area will allow students to pick their own produce before making delicious dishes with it, tutored by Rodney Dunn, former food editor of Australian Gourmet Traveller magazine.

Last month, Tourism Western Australia also recommended the Gingin Observatory and the Eco Beach Wilderness Retreat, which will open near Broome in May 2009, to people considering holidays to Australia.
