Try holidays to Australia for a day at the racesAnyone keen on a day at the races may wish to book flights to Australia in order to experience the sport in a slightly warmer climate.

January could be an ideal time, since the Kangaroo Island Gourmet Gallop will take place on the 24th on the island in Kingscote, South Australia.

The event is targeted at families and tourists and also involves activities such as face painting and cheese sampling for those who like a day out but are not keen on a full day of racing.

Kangaroo Island - Australia's third-largest after Tasmania and Melville Island - is seven times the size of Singapore according to its official website.

It is situated 112 kilometres south-west of Adelaide at the entrance of Gulf Saint Vincent and can be reached by ferry or plane from the mainland.

The island was recently voted as the best island in the Asia-Pacific region by National Geographic Traveller Magazine.
