Holidays to South Africa and Australia always popularHolidays to South Africa and Australia continue to be popular with Britons because of the benefits they offer over other destinations, it has been claimed.

Kate Kenward, executive director of the Association of Independent Tour Operators, said that South Africa is good because it is in the same time zone as Britain "so jet lag is not a problem", while Australia is simply popular because of its lifestyle and beaches.

"They have a very strong repeat visiting ratio as well," she added.

These countries could also be good destinations for Brits seeking to avoid poor exchange rates, with the euro and the US dollar both currently working out poorly against the pound.

Cape Town was recently voted as Best World City in a poll carried out by the Telegraph.

Its readers chose the South African city over other destinations such as San Francisco and Sydney, as well as voting South Africa in general among the top three non-European countries.
