A spokesperson from the financial services company esure has urged British travellers, including those on holidays to Australia and South Africa, not to neglect their travel insurance.

A spokesperson from the financial services company esure has urged British travellers, including those on holidays to Australia and South Africa, not to neglect their travel insurance.

Mike Pickard from the firm said: "Booking early to get a bargain and having a holiday to look forward to in summer is engrained in the British psyche."

However, he pointed out that while people often book their breaks well in advance, they leave their travel insurance until much later, which could prove costly, as well as leading to problems in the case of cancellation.

With a poll by esure finding that 20 per cent of people will not take out travel insurance, he urged people to resolve this as early as possible, perhaps when checking passports and visas.

UK payments association Apacs recently warned people to keep their credit cards safe on holiday as fraudsters could get hold of the PIN and use it in other countries.
