It may seem paradoxical, but people on holidays in Melbourne can now do just that thanks to a new exhibition that has opened within the city's aquarium.

Tourism Victoria highlights the new attraction, which features King and Gentoo penguins in a "state-of-the-art enclosure" with ice pools and a penguin swimming area.

The whole thing cost £13 million to build and allows visitors to watch the creatures being fed, look at interactive displays and watch presentations.

In other news for people going on holidays to Melbourne, the Southern Star Observation Wheel is now open, giving visitors the chance to see panoramic views of the city and up to 25 miles beyond.

Tourism Victoria reports that international overnight visitors to the region increased by 1.2 per cent from 2007 to 2008, reaching the highest levels seen in 15 years.
