Great Barrier Reef still most popular for holidays to AustraliaMost people on holidays to Australia want to see the Great Barrier Reef before they die.

This is the conclusion of new research carried out by totaltravel.com, which found that 32 per cent of respondents chose the coral reef, followed by Uluru (formerly Ayers Rock) at 21 per cent.

Other popular Australian attractions included Sydney Harbour and Opera House and the Great Ocean Road.

Paul Fisher, global marketing manager for the firm, said it is no surprise that the Great Barrier Reef retains its charm.

"It is the largest coral system in the world and supports a wide diversity of life. Snorkelling or scuba diving there is a truly unforgettable experience," he remarked.

In related news, Uluru and the Great Barrier Reef have made it through to a shortlist of attractions aiming to be named among the New7Wonders of Nature, which will be announced in 2011.Meet the editors...
