Lurhmann film increasing holidays to AustraliaThe Baz Lurhmann film Australia is encouraging people from all over the world to choose holidays to Australia.

This is according to the country's tourist board spokesperson Geoff Buckley, who said that travel companies have commented on how many more enquiries they have received about the land Down Under since the film opened.

Mr Buckley said that almost 600 million people had seen the publicity surrounding the picture, which stars Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman.

"Even film critics who have never visited Australia have provided glowing endorsements with one UK critic saying that after seeing the film they were tempted to visit their travel agent," he added.

For people going on holidays to Australia, the website Australia.com suggests a number of activities that are associated with the film, including the remote bushcamp of Faraway Bay, where the film's crew stayed to shoot footage of the King George River, as well as sleeping under the stars in the Outback near Sydney as Luhrmann did.
