People in the UK who aim to go on only one holiday this year should be fine with a single trip insurance policy.

This is the advice of an article in the Irish Independent, which states that although people should opt for annual cover if there is any chance of them going overseas another time over the course of a year, single trip cover will be sufficient for those needing cover for two weeks in the sun.

The piece also suggests shopping around for the best travel insurance policy, since some outlets can charge up to three times the average price.

"By playing it smart, you can easily save [money]," the Independent points out.

Figures published by financial services provider Insurefor.com showed that sales of travel insurance increased by 37 per cent over five weeks in late 2008.

The number of people purchasing ski cover went up the most, perhaps due the publicity surrounding the cost of air ambulances.
