Holidaymakers 'still enjoy the duty free'

People going on a sunshine break this year - perhaps including those on holidays to Australia - are still intending to make the most of the duty free, a poll has revealed.

People going on a sunshine break this year - perhaps including those on holidays to Australia - are still intending to make the most of the duty free, a poll has revealed.

According to the survey carried out by Direct Line, 65 per cent of respondents said that they will be budgeting carefully so that they can still treat themselves at the airport, with perfume or aftershave being the most popular items to splash out on.

Alcohol, cigarettes, cosmetics and sunglasses were also found to be goods purchased often by Britons heading abroad.

Direct Line said in order to conserve money for the duty free shops, travellers could avoid changing currency at the airport and travel during the night to cut costs on flights.

Meanwhile, the Co-operative Bank recently found that on average, people from the UK spend £18 each before boarding their flights, which equates to £72 for a typical family.Meet the editors...
