Qatar announces new flights to AustraliaQatar Airways has announced that it is to bring in new flights to Australia as part of its growing schedule.

Flights to Sydney and Melbourne will both be brought in over the coming months, the airline's chief executive officer Akbar Al Baker announced at a travel and tourism show in Berlin today (March 11th).

The new services are part of the carrier's commitment to developing its infrastructure and delivering new aircraft every month.

"Sydney and Melbourne have been on our radar screen for many years. We can finally look forward to entering the Australian market with vigour," said Mr Baker.

Flights to Goa and Amritsar in India, as well as routes to two new European destinations, are also to be brought in by the company.

Qatar Airways will operate a fleet of 110 aircraft by 2013, almost double the existing size.

It is based in Dubai and is among the only six airlines awarded a prestigious five-star rating by Skytrax.
