Yamba could be ideal for holidays to AustraliaPeople looking for somewhere a little bit different to head to on their holidays to Australia may want to stop off at Yamba in New South Wales.

This is according to Australian Traveller magazine, which has just voted the destination to be the best town in the country, beating off stiff competition from more well-known destinations to top the chart.

Yamba is a tiny fishing town that has a population of around 5,600 people and is close to Angourie, but the team at the magazine thought it had a special something that warranted its new-found status.

"These top towns often have highly commercialised neighbours, but they also have that 'X factor'. They are unique, they are still beautiful, but they are often hidden gems," it commented.

According to the New South Wales Maritime website, Yamba is Australia's easternmost sea port and is located at the mouth of the Clarence River in northern New South Wales.

Other towns that made the top ten included Esperance, Broome and Margaret River in Western Australia, Port Douglas in Queensland and Apollo Bay in Victoria.
