Australias Lady Elliot Island ideal for nature loversLady Elliot Island, situated an hour's flight from Brisbane in Australia, could be the perfect holiday destination for nature lovers.

This is the suggestion of Lynsey de Paul, writing for the Daily Mail, who went there recently and was thrilled by the different varieties of wildlife she saw there.

The island is environmentally-friendly and generates its own electricity, hot water and drinking water, as well as housing numerous endangered species.

A particular highlight for Ms de Paul was watching green turtles lay their eggs in the sand, while she also enjoyed scuba diving off the Great Barrier Reef and visiting Steve Irwin's wildlife hospital.

"For anyone who loves nature, Queensland is an unforgettable reminder of why we should all be working to conserve the planet's rich diversity," the writer concluded.

People on the lookout for flights to Australia may be interested to know that Virgin Atlantic - which is celebrating 25 years of flying in 2009 - provides such services.
