Brits prioritise spending for a break in the sunBritish travellers have claimed a holiday in the sun is a top priority and have found other ways to save to ensure they reach their destination, new research has revealed.

More than 25 million UK travellers will be flying off to foreign destinations in 2009, figures from Tesco Personal Finance indicated.

Some 14 million even claimed they would be taking two or more foreign travel breaks this year, despite people tightening their belts.

"It's great to see that holidaymakers are pulling out the stops to get value for money and making sacrifices to ensure they get their two weeks in the sun," said a spokesperson for the company.

However, he went on to say that people could save themselves more money if they shop around for a good deal on their travel money - as the study found 26 per cent of people chose convenience over a good rate when it comes to foreign currency.

Australia was voted best holiday destination for 2009 by the Telegraph's luxury travel magazine awards. Meet the editors...
