If travellers are looking for a luxury eco-break on their holiday to Australia, then they may wish to consider staying at Queensland's Wilson Island resort.

Located on a coral cay on the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Gladstone, the resort won the Best Eco-Tourism Experience award at the 2009 Australian Gourmet Travel Awards at the end of May.

It was described by judges as a "pin-up for sustainable yet unforgettable holidays" and a "delicious dot on the Great Barrier Reef".

Only 12 travellers at a time may stay on the resort in six safari-style tents, each privately secluded.

Travel Daily News stated: "Each tent [boasts] the luxuries of a hotel room and [is] only metres from the beach."

Holidaymakers flying to Australia for a stay in Tasmania may wish to consider the Cradle Mountain Lodge which was named Best Lodge in the awards for the second consecutive year.
