Australia has had the "best start to a snow season in a decade"The start of the Australian ski season has arrived and the Sydney Morning Herald has described it as the "best start to a snow season in a decade".

Holidaymakers catching a flight to Australia for some winter sports fun may find that "extensive" snowfall has created ideal skiing and snowboarding conditions for all of the major ski resorts in Victoria and New South Wales, it reported.

All cross country trails are open at Lake Mountain, which has seen some 40 centimetres of powder coat the slopes - the heaviest snowfall seen in the region on June 11th.

Snowmaking machines will also be on hand to supplement the natural snow fall.

Lifts are already starting to open at the downhill locations of Mount Buller and Falls Creek, with more due to open on Friday.

Holidaymakers flying to Sydney, further up the eastern coast, may wish to attend the Sydney Good Food and Wine Show taking place from July 3rd to 5th. Meet the editors...
