Australia 'experiencing a hot winter'

Those on cheap holidays in Australia have been basking in the sunshine, despite it being winter in the country, it has been reported.

While Britons have had to tolerate a particularly dreary summer with rainfall and winds a frequent occurrence, those on cheap holidays in Australia have a different story to tell, it seems.

According to Australia's Bureau of Meteorology, this winter has been the country's hottest yet, with temperatures in August creeping 2.47 C higher than average for that time of year, reports the BBC.

New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria are among the areas that have experienced a sweltering winter, the bureau added.

"Early last week we saw a number of locations […] break their August record-high temperatures by four or five degrees, and to break records by that sort of margin is something which is extremely rare," Blair Trewin of the National Climate Centre told the news provider.

Dry winters and soaring temperatures have their downsides in Australia. Earlier this year, over 200 people were killed and more than 1,800 homes were destroyed by a particularly catastrophic outbreak of bush fires.Meet the editors...
