Brits booking cheap flights to Australia will soon have more things to do, as a new nature reserve over two times the size of America's Yellowstone National Park has opened in the Northern Territory.

Sprawling nature reserve opened in Australia

A nature reserve that is to be managed by Aboriginal communities in Australia's Northern Territory has been unveiled.

The Warddeken and Djekl Indigenous Protected Areas - which occupy 20,500 square kilometres (7,900 square miles) near the city of Darwin - are making their debut as a visitor attraction and impressive reserve.

More than twice the size of the Yellowstone National Park in the US, the nature reserve is home to ancient rock art and will serve to protect some of the most concerted conservation efforts of recent times, according to environment minister Peter Garrett.

He added: "They protect Australia's biodiversity while providing training and employment for Aboriginal people doing work that they love on their own country."

People on cheap holidays in Australia will also find attractions such as Uluru and Kakadu National park in the Northern Territory.
