Sydney hotel takes top award

The Swissotel in Sydney has received the award for the best hotel in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

People planning holidays to Sydney may be interested to know that one of the best hotels in the Oceania region is located in the city.

Swissotel Sydney was bestowed with the title of the best hotel in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands by the HotelClub.

The website selects the winners based on votes cast online by travellers who have stayed at the hotels.

Wayne Horbach, general manager at the hotel, said the staff were "deeply honoured" to have received the award, adding: "It is gratifying to know that they [our guests] recognise our efforts and our unrelenting commitment to excellence."

Criteria used to rate the hotels included ambience, family friendliness, facilities and staff attitude.

Swissotel Sydney is part of a global chain of luxury hotels with more than 25 resorts operating under the name around the world.

The hotel in Australia's iconic city is situated close to many famous landmarks, including the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, as well as boasting comprehensive leisure facilities.
