Aquatic adventures in South Australia

Holidaymakers looking for unusual adventures may want to consider some of the tours on offer in South Australia.

Travellers booking flights to Australia may want to head to Port Lincoln on the south Australian coast to experience some of their unusual marine life tours.

One charter company operating out of the harbour offers trips to an aquaculture farm where visitors are given the opportunity to swim with southern blue fin tuna.

The boat is equipped with an underwater glass viewing area to allow those not so keen on getting wet to see the fish as well.

Another highlight of the trip is the chance to hand-feed the tuna from a platform on the vessel.

Sea lions also attract tourists to this stretch of Australian coastline, with outings available to see a colony of the animals on Hopkins Island.

Passengers can watch the sea lions from the boat or are invited to swim with them in the sheltered waters of Baird Bay.

Dolphins, seals and seabirds may also be spotted on one of these tours.

Both these trips form part of the Seafood and Aquaculture Trail set up by the South Australia Tourism Commission. Other highlights along route include whale watching at the Head of Bight and snorkelling with giant cuttlefish.
