Australia a "diverse" destinationTravellers who take holidays to Australia will be impressed by its diversity, according to the latest edition of Lonely Planet.

The 15th edition of its guide, which has just been published, described how Australia's landscapes were formed by extreme weather conditions, including floods, drought and fires.

Commenting on its dramatic terrain, Justine Vaisutis, coordinating author on the guide, said: "These origins, harsh, resilient and beautiful, remain emblematic of the diversity of life Australia has created ever since."

She added that this was further reflected in the country's cities and outback.

Authors of the latest book spent a total of 65 weeks on the road exploring all that Australia has to offer.

New attractions for tourists include the viewing platform that was constructed at Uluru and opened to the public earlier this year.

Meanwhile, the country will continue to draw in travellers who are keen to experience both the adventure sports - such as scuba diving and sailing - as well as soak up the culture in its varied cities.
