People booking flights to Perth may want to explore the rest of Western Australia and could find a new guide about sustainable travel in the region helpful.

Travellers helped with sustainable holidays to Australia

Tourism Western Australia and responsibletravel.com have collaborated to create a new guide to the region detailing experiences, accommodation and food that supports sustainable travel.

Activities highlighted in the online resource include swimming with whale sharks on Ningaloo reef and discovering the aboriginal heritage around the Bungle Bungles.

In addition to traditional travel reviews, the guide also provides tourists with tips from locals on the best places to go and things to see in the form of videos and podcasts.

Commenting on the project, Justin Francis, managing director of responsibletravel.com, said: "Responsible tourism has been gathering pace in Western Australia with a number of new eco-focused properties and tours starting in the state over the last few years. This guide brings them together in one place."

Liz Constable, tourism minister for the area, added that the region's natural attractions - from its reefs to its forests and ancient rock formations - were its distinguishing features.

Earlier this month, the south-western part of the state was selected by Lonely Planet as one of the world's top ten regions to visit in 2010.
