Get back to nature on holidays to AustraliaThe state of Queensland offers travellers the chance to get back to nature and recover from their flights to Australia.

That is according to travel writer John Carter, who has revealed that the reality of Outback Australia is "a world away" from the image presented in a certain jungle-based reality TV show.

Writing for the Daily Mail, the globetrotter revealed that, since he wanted to enjoy some "contemplative time" on his latest trip, the Australian bush surrounding Cookstown in Queensland was the natural choice.

In addition to boasting the oldest rainforest in the world - the Daintree National Park, which is 65 million years older than the Amazon - this unspoiled part of the country allows visitors enjoying holidays to Australia the chance to get off the beaten track and learn first-hand the outdoors skills honed by the aboriginals over the centuries.

For example, a number of native Australians offer tours of the bush, including spear-throwing lessons and lectures on sustainability, within the World Heritage-listed national park, while the eco lodges dotted within the rainforest offer all the comforts of a big city hotel while also boasting stunning nature on their doorsteps.

The state of Queensland is also home the vibrant city of Brisbane, as well as to the Great Barrier Reef, among the major natural highlights of holidays to Australia.
