Australia launches first outback marathonAnyone booking flights to Australia later this year could find themselves sharing a plane with some top athletes.

This is because the country will host its first ever international outback marathon in July.

People taking part do not need to be professional runners but will need to make sure that they are in good shape as the temperature is expected to be around 21 degrees C, even though it will be the middle of Australia's winter.

It could be an unusual way for those taking holidays to Australia to see some of its best known landmarks, as the course runs around Uluru and the Kata Tjuta national park.

Anyone who does not feel energetic enough to complete the full race may just want to enter for one of the stages.

Participants can choose between a half marathon, 11km or 6km route, offering a greater number of people the chance to enjoy the event.

Money raised from the race will be donated to the Heart Foundation.
