People who have booked flights to Australia will no doubt want to see some of the country's spectacular scenery.

The outback and Australia's red centre have always proved a draw for tourists, particularly those who are keen to visit landmarks such as Uluru and the Kata Tjuta National Park.

One tour operator in the country has suggested that travellers might want to follow in the footsteps of John McDouall Stuart, the first European to reach the red centre.

This year marks the 150th anniversary of his journey, which paved the way for the introduction of Australia's first overland telegraph line from Adelaide to Europe via Darwin.

His fourth expedition into the heart of the country proved to be successful and he also made the journey from south to north and back again in 1862.

Tourists who decide to visit Alice Springs and its surrounding attractions may decide that they want to climb Uluru.

Alternatively, people who prefer a little less activity on their holidays can book on to one of the sunrise tours that allows you to watch the daylight break over the rock formation in comfort and style.
