Those taking cheap flights to Australia may want to pay a visit to Byron Bay in New South Wales, which is home to some of the world's best beaches, according to a new poll.

The area, which is a former New South Wales whaling station, has come third in the TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice 2010 awards, which are based on holidaymakers' reviews, destination comments and popularity.

According to the judges "Byron Bay's beaches are dotted with lighthouses and surrounded by bottlenose dolphins, rays, whales and sea turtles".

The panel went on to add that the town is influenced by its hippy past and has a bohemian atmosphere about it.

Those taking cheap flights to Australia will also find an abundance of vegetarian restaurants and bars to enjoy.

While in the area, holidaymakers may discover that South Australia is one of the new destinations attracting the attention of travellers who enjoy trying different kinds of cuisine.
