Australia named top luxury travel destinationAnyone preparing to board flights to Australia will no doubt be glad to learn that it has been ranked as one of the best luxury travel destinations in the world.

Readers of the Daily Telegraph participated in the annual survey for the Ultratravel 100 Awards and it was Australia which came out ahead of the competition when it comes to luxury holidays.

Other countries to make the top five included New Zealand, South Africa, Thailand and the United States.

Voters also ranked specific hotels, spas, airports and airlines as part of the newspaper's poll.

According to Tourism Australia, there are 100 things that you can only do in Australia, including visiting the world's largest inner-city park in Perth and drinking among some of the oldest grape vines on the planet just outside Sydney.

The Four Seasons hotel in Sydney was named as the first runner-up in the best hotel in Asia/Australia category.
