Book flights to Australia and visit the WhitsundaysAnyone who is planning to hop on flights to Australia this year should make sure that they pay a visit to the Whitsunday Islands, according to one travel writer.

Situated on the east coast of Australia, Carol Drinkwater described them as "a sailor's paradise" and "a diver's dream" due to their location at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef.

Writing for the Daily Mail, she explained that there are a range of options when it comes to accommodation, but recommended staying in one of the high-end beach resorts on Hamilton Island.

Boasting 60 private pavilions, Qualia is a "luxury enclave", Ms Drinkwater stated.

She praised the food and spa facilities provided by the resort but was most struck by its location and the peace that the destination afforded.

In 2009, Hamilton Island became known the world over after Tourism Queensland launched a search for a caretaker, who would get to live on the island for six months and blog about their experiences.
