The number of people arriving on flights to Australia is expected to increase over the coming year.

Australia expects visitor numbers to rise

More travellers are expected to book flights to Australia over the next 12 months, according to one organisation in the country.

The latest figures issued by the Tourism Forecasting Committee (TFC) predict that inbound arrivals will rise by 5.5 per cent by the end of 2010, with a further increase of 4.9 per cent expected in 2011.

Between 2009 and 2014, the TFC anticipates that the number of Brits booking flights to Australia will rise by 1.9 per cent.

Researchers noted that visitor numbers from Britain for the remainder of 2010 are likely to be boosted by the Ashes cricket series, with the first Test scheduled for November 25th to 29th in Brisbane.

Matt Hingerty, managing director of the Australian Tourism Export Council, told TravelMole that the outlook in the nation is improving.

"The dollar dropped somewhat in recent months, which makes Australia more competitive as a destination," he stated.
