South Australia optimistic on tourismThe tourism industry in South Australia is optimistic about the state of the sector, echoing the feelings of other parts of the Asia Pacific region, it has been revealed.

Those heading off on cheap flights to Australia may be interested to hear that at the annual Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Hotel Industry Conference held last week, levels of optimism among hotel chains in Australia are now on the rise following some two years of anaemic demand.

UK marketing manager for the South Australian Tourism Commission Neil Saunders said: "The proof is the fact that Crowne Plaza opened its doors in April 2010, and there is talk of more hotel developments in South Australia over the coming years."

According to figures from STR Global, year-on-year occupancy in Australia stood at 69.8 per cent in May 2010, a rise of some 5.4 per cent.

Mr Saunders said there is "renewed vigour" among tourism operators in South Australia.
