Taking cheap flights to Australia? Here are some packing tipsStylist Brix Start-Smith has offered a number of packing tips for jetting off on cheap flights to Australia this year keen to avoid extra luggage charges.

Rival stylist on popular fashion show Gok's Fashion Fix, Start-Smith is known for her love of expensive designer clothing but advises people not to take too many costly items away with them.

To make a case lighter, checking the weather forecast before jetting off is essential to avoid packing unnecessary items, she said, as is taking things which can double or triple-up - like a sarong that could be a scarf or skirt too.

A piece of statement jewellery could help mix up several different outfits and will not weigh much in a case, travellers are advised. And while it may not be relevant to those jetting off on cheap flights to Australia, a country known for its fabulous weather, some travellers may find it useful to carry a light umbrella in their handbag.

Her comments follow a survey from Thomson - as part of its Holiday Forever campaign - which found on average, only 16 per cent people wear and use everything they have packed for a break.
