Taronga Zoo in Sydney has retained its spot at the top of a list of most popular experiences in the Australian city.

The zoo has been the tourist's favourite spot in the city for the past four years and in the year ending June 2010, received almost 1.5 million visitors.

Holidaymakers jetting off on flights to Sydney should definitely make time in their getaway schedule to visit the animal park, which has a special focus on animal conservation.

Over the past yeah, the zoo has seen the birth of Australia's first elephant calf as well as the return to the wild of the Booroolong frog, an endangered species bred at the centre.

Taronga also boasts a Tasmanian Devil breeding centre which could interest those on a holiday with children who may have seen the popular TV cartoon with the creature as its main character.

"This result proves that people are interested in our work for wildlife and that conservation is fascinating and exciting. It also makes us uniquely positioned to educate and inspire the community about conservation issues," said Taronga's general manager for marketing and commercial operations Paul Davies.
