New flights to Australia plannedA low-cost airline has revealed new plans to offer more flights to Melbourne and Sydney.

Jetstar believes there is strong demand for frequent flights from Hobart in Tasmania to Australia and is therefore upping capacity by 128,000 seats per year, reports the Mercury.

Tasmania is Australia's only island state and offers holidaymakers a chance to discover its stunning coastline as well as its green valleys.

The airline plans to offer three daily services from Sydney to Hobart compared to the current two, while the Melbourne to Hobart route will be increased from four daily flights to five.

"These exciting new services we are announcing today reflect our continued commitment to deliver even more low-fare, hassle-free and convenient services to Tasmania," explained Jetstar chief executive officer Bruce Buchanan.

He added the additional capacity could play an important role in helping to boost the tourist appeal of Tasmania and provide additional income for the region's economy.
