New transit card ideal for cheap flight passengers

People enjoying cheap flights to Australia, France and America could benefit from a new international transit card system that would make local travel easier.

The Telegraph reports new transit card systems could be introduced that would enable international travellers to easily access bus, underground and train networks without having to purchase a local ticket card.

It is reported that discussions are already being held with transport authorities in America, Australia and Europe over proposals to integrate systems in major cities such as Sydney, Paris and New York.

London is hoping to introduce a contactless payment system in time for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Kulveer Ranger, the Mayor of London's transport adviser, explained: "This technology is now maturing and could enable people to pay for their travel using credit or debit cards resulting in a simpler process for the customer and reducing commission and processing costs."

Sydney has a travel system that makes use of a number of methods of public transport and the city benefits from a monorail that loops around the city, with trains running every three to five minutes.
