New flights to Brisbane announcedChina Southern Airlines has announced plans to offer new flights to Brisbane to encourage tourism between China and Australia.

Speaking to Xinhua, the airline's general manager of Australia region and Sydney office, Henry He, explained the new services will include three flights per week between Guangzhou in southern China and Brisbane.

The new service will start at the beginning of next month and follows an agreement between China Southern Airlines and Australia's tourism minister Peter Lawlor.

"Over the past few months, Tourism Queensland has undertaken a marketing and promotional blitz to encourage more Chinese visitors to fly direct to Queensland," said Mr Lawlor.

The media campaign has been launched within shopping malls, transport systems and online to help encourage greater tourist links between the two countries.

Currently, Chinese holidaymakers planning a trip to Queensland are limited to flights to Sydney or Melbourne.

China Southern Airlines recently reported growth in both passenger numbers and profit during the first half of the year.
