Australia to promote Indigenous tourism

Tourism Western Australia (WA) is working with the Western Australian Indigenous Tourism Operators Committee (WAITOC) to help promote the country's Indigenous tourism products and experiences.

Tourism Western Australia (WA) is working with the Western Australian Indigenous Tourism Operators Committee (WAITOC) to help promote the country's Indigenous tourism products and experiences.

According to WA chairman Kate Lamont, the partnership along with Royalties for Region, will provide $1.3 million ($0.8 million) of funding over the next three years to help boost the region's tourism and undertake marketing campaigns.

"WA's Indigenous tourism product and experiences are a unique selling point for us – it’s one of the elements which sets us apart from the other States," Ms Lamont said.

The chairman also explained that the new agreement comes just a few months after WA's restructure designed to encourage tourism growth across the state.

WAITOC represents over 50 Aboriginal tourism operators and is aiming to raise the profile of Indigenous tourism within Australia and worldwide.
