New travel card ideal for world travellers

Travellers taking flights to Australia and other international destinations could benefit from a new prepaid travel card.

American Express believes the GlobalTravel Card could offer an alternative to cash for many holidaymakers, reports e-Travel Blackboard.

The card is due to be launched by the end of November and is reloadable as well as allowing users to convert cash into a number of different currencies.

American Express Global Prepaid's vice-president and general manager Lawrence Chan explained: "As many travellers know all too well, it is very easy to lose track of the exchange rate while travelling, miscalculate currency conversions or underestimate travel budgets… This is where travel cards come to the fore."

Users of the card also have the benefit of 24/7 support so they can report lost or stolen cards. There is also a free replacement service which means a new card can be sent directly to the card holder's current destination.

The card does not have a monthly fee but charges a fee every time the card is reloaded with funds.
