World Cup decision for Australia The decision on whether Australia will host the 2022 Fifa World Cup is set to be made on December 3rd.

The judging panel will announce its decision this Friday in Zurich and Australia is competing with the US, Japan, South Korea and Qatar to hold the football tournament.

According to sports betting website Tom Waterhouse, Australia is currently the favourite. However, this could change, claims the website.

"Sydney trailed Beijing until the final round of voting in Monte Carlo all those years ago and likewise, I'm not expecting Australia to hit the front in Zurich until it matters most," said Tom Waterhouse.

If awarded the 2022 World Cup, then the number of flights to Australia could increase to accommodate football fans from around the world.

SBS reports that new football arenas could be built in Perth, Canberra and western Sydney if Australia is picked as the 2022 host country.

Fifa is also set to reveal the host nation of the 2018 World Cup tournament today.
