Prince William and Kate Middleton may opt to travel to Australia for their first official tour as a married couple.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Australia is likely to be the newly-wed's destination at some point in 2011 after their wedding on April 29th, especially as it is traditional for royal couples to visit a former colony country on their first overseas tour

The prince visited the country in January for three days and is believed to have enjoyed the stay.

A royal insider told the newspaper: "William had a fantastic time when he came earlier in the year and developed a real affinity for Australia and its people."

"With Australia being such an important part of the Commonwealth, it means it is under very serious consideration for the first visit."

Meanwhile, the BBC has confirmed that Huw Edwards will be hosting its coverage of the royal wedding day.
