Flights to Sydney from China beginSydney Airport recently welcomed new flights from China via Hainan Airlines.

The carrier is the fifth Chinese airline to introduce direct flights to Sydney from China following an increase in demand from travellers.

Hainan Airlines has launched a new service that will offer three flights per week from Sydney to Shenzhen and then onto Hangzhou.

"Having direct access to a city like Shenzen is very important for business travellers," chief executive officer of Sydney Airport, Russell Balding, told Australian Business Traveller.

"When businesspeople look to travel they look for a direct route. They get their quicker and arrive more refreshed, instead of being laid over in a hub."

At present, Air China, China Eastern, China Southern, Cathay Pacific, Qantas and Virgin Atlantic all operate flights to Sydney from China.

Hainan Airlines also offers international flights to other destinations such as Phuket, Bangkok, Berlin and Brussels.
