Cyndi Laupers tour arrives in SydneyFans of 80s music taking flights to Australia may be excited to hear that Cyndi Lauper is due to play in Sydney tonight (April 1st) as part of her latest world tour.

The Girls Just Wanna Have Fun singer arrived in Australia yesterday for her first show at the Sydney State Theatre and is due to play a second show this evening.

Speaking to Time Out Sydney, the 57-year-old chanteuse said that she aims to sing an uplifting set full of classic pop tunes and reworked blues numbers.

"I looked at what was going on in our country [the USA] and I felt like everybody's singing the blues, so I needed to make it uplifting," she said of her latest album Memphis Blues.

The gay icon's new record is due to come out on the same day as Sydney celebrates Pride festival, and Lauper spoke of her love for the gay community because it "doesn't really discriminate".

After her two dates in Australia, Cyndi Lauper's global tour will be coming to the UK in June.
