Wine lovers are encouraged to try the best local wines on their Australian holiday.

Rainy summer is great news for Queensland wines

While visitors on flights to Australia earlier this year may have been disappointed by the heavy rains, late-season travellers can benefit from the great wine-growing conditions.

This is according to Queensland Grands Vins, which has reported a 27.4 per cent increase in demand for its wine this year.

Neil Scanlan, the company's regional manager, said: "Locals and visitors alike are appreciating the improved quality of Queensland's wines. Wine and food is very much a part of the travel experience."

Grans Vins is a wine list that showcases the best of Queensland's produce, and visitors staying at Mercure hotels in Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville can sample the best of the local grapes.

New for 2011, Grands Vins wines will also be available at Mercure Clear Mountain Lodge and Mercure Kingfisher Bay Resort on Fraser Island.

Varieties on offer this season include verdelho, pinot gris and malbec, and for the first time a sparkling wine, the award-winning chardonnay from Robert Channon.
